Measuring with links

We are thoroughly enjoying our health and fitness project. Several days we have begun our activities with a bit of yoga which you may be surprised to find that they enjoyed!

We had a great day yesterday jumping and bouncing all over the place. We read books about jumping and bouncing then tried to use our imaginations to come up with new ways to bounce (high, low, fast, slow, twisting, wiggling, etc.)

Today we moved from "here to there" moving ourselves in different ways. Your children were very creative in coming up with new ways to move across the room. We also moved things fast and slow matching music.

Today in class we measured each other using plastic links. We also weighed ourselves on a scale and recorded our information on a chart. We lined everyone up from shortest to tallest and took a picture with our chart.

They also measured smaller things like a wooden spoon, a pen, a flashlight, etc.

Learning through Play

You will find as your children and I share our classroom experiences with you that they are centered around play. Children learn best through play. It is their work. All of the activities we do here in class have several purposes. For example, in our literacy center last week the children drew letters and pictures in cornmeal. Not only are they working with literacy, but they are also having tactile and social experiences.

We will continue working with the alphabet letters and sounds both in our circle time with the alphabet box and in our centers.

We also do centers revolving around various concepts in math, science, music, problem solving, etc.

I enjoy working with your children, thank you!
